About Susan
Susan Ingal, born December 8, 1957, was a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, but above all- she was a teacher. Susan Ingal graduated from Hofstra University in Long Island and earned her Master’s Degree in Special Education at the City University of New York in 1982.
Her early years as an educator were spent at P.S. 261 in Brooklyn, where she helped develop a program for children with special educational needs. During her tenure there, Susan also developed relationships with many important cultural institutions in New York. Through these liaisons, Susan created a curriculum that integrated basic learning skills with an appreciation for the arts, including theater and the opera.
In 1995, after relocating to Chatham, New Jersey, Susan was recruited to the Special Education Department at Harding Township School. There, she continued to develop innovative teaching techniques, helping deserving students thrive, instead of fail. Susan introduced innovative, math, and reading techniques which became part of the school’s standard special education curriculum. As a lifelong learner, Susan was able to connect with students on a very individualized basis. She helped them identify and take advantage of their own strengths and was able to instill in them the confidence needed to overcome learning challenges. She believed that anybody can be successful given the opportunity.
Susan, known as Ms. Ingal to her students, was truly one of a kind. She left the world a better place than she found it. This foundation celebrates her belief in her students and her belief that enrichment can be a game changer.
